Double Freecell – Play Online for Free
Double Freecell is an extended, meditative version of Freecell played with two standard 52-card decks. Each game is a genuine marathon that rewards patience and careful planning.
Unlike most solitaire games, there are no hidden cards and no draws from a stock. Every move can be evaluated in advance, which makes the game entirely transparent. The challenge lies not in luck but in finding the right sequence of moves among an enormous number of possibilities.
Double Freecell suits players who enjoy long, focused sessions. The extra cards and additional free cells give you more room to maneuver than the classic version, but also demand more foresight. If you prefer a shorter game, classic Freecell offers the same strategic depth with a single deck.
A Game for Patient Players
The tableau starts with all 104 cards face up across ten columns, each containing ten or eleven cards. Eight free cells are available for temporary card parking. Eight foundation spaces must be filled to win: two complete suit sequences per suit, from Ace up to King, for all four suits.
The movement rules are the same as in Freecell Solitaire:
- Build descending sequences with alternating colors on the tableau. Each black card must be followed by a red one, and vice versa.
- Any card or valid sequence can be placed in an empty column.
- Sequences can only be moved if enough free cells are available to support the move.
If the board becomes completely stuck and the Hint button offers nothing useful, try Baker's Freecell or the classic version for a fresh challenge.
How to Play Double Freecell
Three difficulty levels are available: Easy, Normal, and Hard. A time limit of up to 59 minutes and 59 seconds can also be set. Once you choose a difficulty, all 104 cards are dealt and the game begins. Cards can be dragged to a new position or clicked to find an available destination automatically.
The game menu offers:
- Restart the current game.
- Start a New Game by clicking Easy, Normal, or Hard.
- Undo or Redo moves.
- Hint shows a possible next move.
- Pause stops the game.
- View elapsed time or remaining time if a limit is set.
- See the number of moves made.
Tips for Double Freecell
The strategy is the same as for Freecell, but two tips are worth keeping in mind:
Tip 1: Neutralize Kings. When you clear a column, place a King there as soon as possible, ideally with a sequence attached. Outside of the foundations, Kings can only go to free cells, blocking them temporarily.
Tip 2: Build the foundations slowly. Any Ace uncovered should go straight to a foundation, and matching Twos should follow promptly. For all other cards, check first whether you still need them for maneuvering before sending them to the foundation.
