Freecell – the Ideal Game for a Quick Break

The classic Freecell presented here is perfect for a quick game between activities. You can access it via the Freecell menu on the home page. As soon as you click on it, the cards are dealt within seconds onto the green felt. The layout displays eight vertical columns made up of six or seven overlapping cards. In the top right, the foundations appear, still empty at the start, marked by the heart, club, diamond, and spade symbols. On the left, four free spaces (the free cells) await cards that are temporarily in your way.
Above the tableau is a menu bar displaying several useful pieces of information, including the duration of the current game, the number of moves made, and the number of cards still to be sorted. On the far right, the number of the current game is shown. By clicking on this field, you can choose a new deal with a different number.
Objective and Gameplay: Building and Breaking Down Sequences
Your mission is complete once all Kings are visible on the foundation piles. Ideally, you progressively transfer each card from the tableau or the free cells to the foundations. In an empty free cell or an empty tableau column, you can place any card of your choice. To access the cards you need, you reorganize the tableau into temporary sequences. These must be built in descending order, alternating colors: a red card (heart or diamond) on a black card (spade or club), and vice versa. For example, a seven of spades can be placed on an eight of hearts or diamonds.
On an empty foundation, only Aces can be placed. After that, only the next higher card of the same suit can be added. Each foundation pile is built continuously, from Ace to King, without interruption and in a single suit.
In Freecell, you can only move one card at a time: either the top card of a tableau column or a single card from a free cell. As a built-in shortcut, Freecell Classic does allow you to move all or part of a sequence from one column to another, provided there are enough free spaces for the move to also be possible card by card.
With careful planning, it is generally possible to transform the entire Freecell tableau into foundation piles. If it does not work at a given point, it is probably not because the layout is unsolvable. Make use of the Undo function, which lets you cancel as many moves as you like.
